A few things you need to know before buying any type of PCIE 6 2 pin to double SATA cables is that while a 6 2 pin normally provides 150w on top of the 75w provided by the motherboard’s PCIe slot for the GPU, each SATA cable safely provides only 54w, which gives a sum of a safe 183w (75w 54w 54w). Because my RTX 2060 12GB’s TDP is 184w or maybe even a little higher, I am not gonna take the risk to run its clocks and voltages at stock values. I will definitely undervolt, but not necessarily lose any performance using MSI Afterburner, as I am also doing this on a 350w PSU with an i7 10700F that will not be turbo boosted. On the other hand, it will work perfectly for my GTX 1650 Super even with only one SATA cable inserted, as this GPU only needs 100w which is more than enough for the PCIe slot and one SATA cable to handle (75w 54w=129w). The GTX card will be supplied by SATA cables from a 250w PSU. I know that is an alarmingly low power supply, but this GPU is gonna be paired with an NVIDIA GeForce 6150 SE nForce 430, a very, very old CPU with one of the worst iGPUs to date. I will guess that I will have about 100w left over for four 120mm fans and a SATA SSD. Both of the PSUs are Dell proprietaries, but one is prebuilt with a Dell G5 5000, and the other was bought on its own the other day from Amazon. Just as an RTX 3080 or an RTX 3090 can be paired with a good 650w, this is my testament to those scenarios. Just to make sure, also use separate SATA cables rather than daisy-chained ones, so you don’t overload that SATA cable and potentially start burning some components. My cables will arrive tomorrow along with another PCIe-related item. I hope everything works out for my experiment, and I hope other people found this helpful.
